Built by inspectors, for inspectors.
Pocket Building Inspector started on a job site — not in a boardroom. We got tired of hauling code books and built this tool to assist inspectors in the field.
A correction notice that took 45 minutes to write.
The idea came from a single frustrating afternoon. A building inspector was writing a correction notice for a stairway guardrail — a straightforward IBC section — but couldn't remember the exact handrail extension requirement. The code book was in the truck. The truck was parked a quarter mile away. By the time he walked back, looked it up, and returned to the site, 45 minutes had passed.
That inspector started sketching out what a mobile code reference should look like. Not a PDF viewer. Not a search engine. A purpose-built tool that understood how inspectors actually work — by trade, by system, by the question they're standing in front of right now.
Pocket Building Inspector launched with the Building Inspection Code Check app and expanded to include the ADA & IEBC Code Check Quick Reference for accessibility and existing building work. Both apps are used daily by inspectors, plan reviewers, contractors, and code consultants across the country.
The code shouldn't live in your truck.
Every inspector, contractor, and plan reviewer knows the feeling: you're standing in a crawl space, on a roof, or in a mechanical room — and the answer you need is back in a three-inch binder on your passenger seat. We built Pocket Building Inspector to end that. The full reference library — IBC, IRC, IMC, IPC, IFGC, NFPA, NEC, ADA, and IEBC — lives in your pocket, works offline, and gives you the exact section you need in seconds.
Field-first design
Every screen was tested on an actual job site. If it doesn't work with gloves on, in direct sunlight, with one bar of signal — it doesn't ship.
Accuracy above all
Code citations are verified against the published standard. We don't paraphrase, summarize, or editorialize. You get the section, the table, and the exception — verbatim.
No subscriptions. Ever.
Inspectors work project to project. A monthly fee that hits between jobs is a bad deal. Pay once, use it forever. That's the only model that makes sense for this industry.
Built for every trade
Building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, fire, accessibility — one app covers the full inspection scope so you're not switching between five different tools.
